Hoarding and the Problem with People Who Live like Pack Rats

Dealing with a hoarder is not easy especially if you live in the same house with them because the fact that some hoarders will resort to hiding the trash and clutter which can be obvious when closets are full past their capacity or storage cabinets are not to the point of not closing properly.  Approaching the elderly has to be done delicately because many of them will go into a slew of stories about how they didn’t have anything as a deterrent to take your mind off of their habits and hope you’ll forget about it. It’s not something to forget about when it starts taking over the lives of the individual and their family and friends. This is a problem that strikes more than a million Americans who are elderly with a history of mental illness or mentally ill between the age of 35 and 70.
